BERNARDI WINS ON ERC DEBUT, TARGETS MORE GLORY
Florian Bernardi stepped up to the FIA European Rally Championship in style by winning the ERC3 category on Rally Islas Canarias. Having achieved success in one-make categories in his native France, Bernardi adapted quickly to the high-tempo competition and demanding all-asphalt stages to take a comfortable ERC3 win in his Fréderic Anne Compétition-run Renault Clio R3T. He is now working on securing the support required to contest Italy’s round of the ERC, Rally di Roma Capitale, from 20-22 July. Click for full story.

GAGO IN RENEWED FUNDING SEARCH FOR ERC JUNIOR U27 TITLE BID
Diogo Gago has vowed to go all-out to find the backing needed to continue his FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship bid. Gago is unbeaten in the Pirelli-supported class this season but doesn’t have the necessary funding in place to contest the third event of the season in Italy. Click for full story.

GRZYB BEGINS ERC BID WITH CANARIAS POINTS
Grzegorz Grzyb made it a point-scoring start to his FIA European Rally Championship bid with sixth position on the Rally Islas Canarias. Although he voiced his satisfaction with the result – and his performance – at the finish in Las Palmas on Saturday evening, the former Polish champion was frustrated to have lost so much time on the rain-affected second stage on Friday. PELLIER REFLECTS ON “FANTASTIC WEEKEND” FOR PEUGEOT AND FIRST ERC STAGE WIN
Laurent Pellier belied his lack of experience of R5 machinery by finishing fifth overall on his Rally Islas Canarias having earlier claimed his maiden stage victory in the FIA European Rally Championship. A contender for ERC Junior Under 28 honours for PEUGEOT Rally Academy, Pellier impressed from the start of the challenging asphalt event in his 208 T16, which he was using in competition for only the third time. MAIDEN ERC STAGE WINNER AVCIOǦLU WANTS MORE
Orhan Avcioǧlu celebrated his first stage win in the FIA European Rally Championship by stating he wants to repeat the feat as soon as possible, only this time over a longer distance. Avcioǧlu was fastest of all on the second run through the 1.44-kilometre Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city stage on Friday evening in his Toksport WRT ŠKODA Fabia R5. But in order to go faster more often, Avcioǧlu accepts he’s not in the most advantageous position. Click for full story.

ZAWADA SCORES ON ERC JUNIOR U28 DEBUT
Aleks Zawada shrugged off his dearth of R5 experience – and a couple of offs – to finish sixth on his FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship debut. Zawada had never rallied an R5 car in competition before Rally Islas Canarias and his knowledge of his MSZ Racing Hyundai i20 R5 amounted to just a short test on the Monday of rally week. KREIM’S FIRST ERC PODIUM AFTER LATE SCARE
ŠKODA AUTO Deutschland’s Fabian Kreim overcame late drama to land his maiden podium in the FIA European Rally Championship – and take the runner-up spot in the ERC Junior Under 28 category for young stars in R5 cars. Click for full story.

ACCR’S BROŽ LOOKS TO ROME FOR ERC JUNIOR SUCCESS
Dominik Brož is already focused on the third event of the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship season in Rome following an off-form run to eighth in class on Rally Islas Canarias. The usually-rapid ACCR Czech Team driver lacked pace on Friday’s opening leg and is now hard at work to improve for the next event, Rally di Roma Capitale from 20-22 July. Click for full story.
