NEW AGREEMENT REACHED FOR AZORES AIRLINES RALLY
The Azores will feature on the FIA European Rally Championship calendar for a further three years, after a new agreement was announced on the finish ramp of last weekend’s rally. Under the latest contract, the Azores Airlines Rally will form part of the series until at least the end of 2019, having earned a reputation for being one of the most photogenic and action-packed rallies of the entire series. Jean-Baptiste Ley, ERC General Co-Ordinator, commented: “The Azores Airlines Rally has always been very highly-regarded ever since it became part of the European championship. With the visual impact of the event forming a mainstay of our renowned television coverage, it’s a natural place for us to remain over the next three years.” Last weekend’s Azores Airlines Rally – rebranded this year to reflect the new corporate identity of its title sponsor – was won by a local driver for the first time since 1971.
