HYUNDAI CUSTOMER COMPETITION STRATEGY "PERFECTLY ALIGNED" WITH ERC
Hyundai customer racing manager Andrea Adamo has outlined how the FIA European Rally Championship is central to the Korean firm’s customer competition strategy, following a successful outing for the all-new i20 R5 on the Kenotek Ypres Rally as course car. The new i20 will be homologated in September, with some firm orders already received for the R5 version of the WRC car that won the latest round of the World Rally Championship in Sardinia recently. Positioned as a genuine customer racing programme, the firm aims to attract leading privateers to compete at the sharp end of the ERC. Adamo said: “We want to provide a competitive R5 car but also a full customer racing service to the largest possible range of private drivers over the largest possible number of markets, and so help our customers to victory. The ERC is perfectly aligned with our strategy, as it provides a large number of privateers who could win overall, over a wide geographical area, plus the added visibility of television coverage. The ERC is a very healthy and popular championship, making it the perfect place to showcase the capabilities of our new car.”
