SCATTOLON TARGETS NEXT STEP FOR MORE ERC IN 2017
Italian driver Giacomo Scattolon, who finished runner-up in last year’s FIA ERC2 standings, is targeting the next step up in the top class of car. The 27-year-old from Voghera is homing in on an R5 drive for next year – and he’s looking to contest the all-new ERC Junior Under-28 in 2017, as a way of boosting his career. “We’re at a good point now in finding an R5 car for ERC,” he said, having used a Mitsubishi Lancer throughout 2016. “I have some good experience of the rallies and I’m hoping to put that to good use next season.” Scattolon, co-driven by Paolo Zanini, had a first taste of R5 equipment on the Monza Rally Show recently, when he took the wheel of a Ford Fiesta. He finished 52nd overall after a costly mistake on the final day, having run as high as fifth in the highly-competitive R5 category previously.
