ERC crews enjoy classic welcome in Zlìn

FIA European Rally Championship drivers, co-drivers, journalists and officials enjoyed a truly amazing Barum Czech Rally Zlìn welcome reception last night, during which visitors were free to roam around one of Europe’s most stunning private classic car and motorbike collections. The reception took place at the Samohýl Motor’s Mercedes-Benz showroom in Zlìn, where upstairs part of the Samohýl family’s vast and impressive collection is secretly kept. It was a rare treat to see the many extremely rare vehicles, as the collection is not open to the public. Pictured are Peugeot UK ERC Junior crew Chris Ingram and Gabin Moreau with a beautiful Bugatti.

Stunning new-look Fiesta R5 for ERC winner Lukyanuk

This is the stunning Pirelli-shod Ford Fiesta R5 that Alexey Lukyanuk and co-driver Alexey Arnautov will contest this weekend’s Barum Czech Rally Zlín in. The pair won the high-speed gravel auto24 Rally Estonia in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, and we can’t wait to see their new-look Fiesta R5 fly over the Czech Tarmac stages!

ERC Junior Tannert is ADAC Opel Rallye Cup champion!

Congratulations to Julius Tannert and his co-driver Jennifer Thielen on becoming 2015 ADAC Opel Rallye Cup champions! The ERC Junior crew secured the title at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland, after another brilliant performance in their Team Schmack Motorsport-run Adam Cup Car. Such has been the performance of the talented 25-year old driver from Zwickau in Germany, and his co-driver from Luxembourg, that they have won the title with two rounds remaining. Tannert will swap his similar looking Adam Cup Car for his technically different Adam R2, for this week’s final round of the ERC Junior championship, Barum Czech Rally Zlín

Kopecký offers Barum Rally rookies some sound advice

If you’re about to make your Barum Czech Rally Zlín debut, there is no one better to seek advice from than Jan Kopecký. The country’s top rally driver has contested the event 10 times, winning three times and never finishing off the podium. So, what advice does the ŠKODA Motorsport Fabia R5 driver have for the newcomers this year? “Have huge respect for this rally, because it is very fast on bumpy roads, and to be really concentrated from the first day of recce until the finish of the rally.” Enough said.

Q&A with Aleks Zawada

It’s all fast and furious in the ERC Junior championship, and no one illustrates that better than Aleks Zawada. The hard-charging 23-year old Pole has enjoyed a good first season in his Opel Motorsport-supported Adam R2, and together with co-driver Cathy Derousseaux won the Ypres Rally. Fiaerc.com caught up with Aleks, ahead of this week’s Barum Czech Rally Zlín.

What has been your ERC Junior highlight so far and why?
“My highlight was definitely our victory in Ypres. It was an unbelievable rally, a real emotional rollercoaster! From being in the fight for the lead, to getting stuck in a ditch and then having to pull out all the stops to fight our way back up and finally clinch the win in the last few kilometres of the rally! Also filling the podium with Opels was a great feeling, it was a great sight – nothing but yellow and white race suits up there!”

What are the main things you have learnt this year?
“I have learnt a lot this year, despite the season not going quite how we would have liked, the whole team had to maintain focus and try to come back faster and stronger on each round – something that does not come easy. But I think the major thing I have learnt is that our Adam, despite being little, has big balls! It is now the undeniable leader in the R2 class, and I’m proud to be a part of that.”

What will be your strategy and ideal result on the final round?
“Strategy? Well, if I told you then I would have to kill you… 😉 But seriously, our ideal result will be the top step of the podium, and that is what we are aiming for, and our strategy will reflect that – which essentially means a heavy right foot! All the boys and girls will be fighting very hard to finish well. Cathy and I will have to be very focused and completely on our game to beat them, but it’s a challenge that we relish and will do our very best to achieve.”
